(OJT) is a college re quirement for the students to experience several jobs that must be related to the students’ course. And that experience would help students t o know more on how to work properly and gain ideas/experiences of being an employee in the company where you are trained as a student trainee. In my case I grabbed the opportunity to conduct my OJT with Del Monte Philippines Incorporated (DMPI) in Camp Phillips Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, as they only accept those DMPI employee dependents. It is one of the fastest growing global branded food and Beverage Company.

It was on May 09, 2010atexactly two o’clock in the afternoon when the HR Manager of DMPI call for an orientation about the rules and regulations of the company that all of us most observed. During that time we signed contract and we are also introduced to our designated work place. “You will be working with Mr. Archie P. Apal ofthe SECAM department, bring this letter and tell him that you are assigned to his department as a student trainee”, HR manager said. She also informed me that I will be reporting six o’clock in the morning, six days a week. It would be a big challenge to me to wake up as early as four o’clock every morning just to prepare.

It was on the 15th of April, 2010 when I started my on-the-job training with DMPI. On my first two days I encountered difficulties in terms of transportation, in the sense that only around eight o’clock in the morning the

commercial vehicles heading to Camp Phillips are available. In that situation I will surely be everyday late. I need to set my alarm at three thirty (3:30) in the morning and woke up to prepare for duty. I need to prepare my food for lunch and a warm water to be mixed on the water I used to take a bath. Quarter before its five o’clock I need to leave the house for me to avail the free ride of DMPI canter or HAUL for their employees. (HAUL (as used) – a vehicle that is being used by DMPI to haul their employees from a designated meeting place to the work area to make sure that employees will be on their designated workplace fifteen minutes before time in (6:00 a.m)). In my case, I need to take a ride about five minutes for me to be in the meeting place. I need to be conscious with the time or else I will be riding on a commercial motorcycle and pay eighty pesos (80.00) for the ride to Camp Phillips. And I accept it as a challenge.

On the first day of duty, I met the SECAM supervisor Sir Archie P. Apal and introduced me to Sir Marlon Gonzales – the right hand of Sir Archie, and Sir Michael Barola – the assistant. “ Welcome to SECAM sal’ which is Security y, Environment, Community Administration and Media and you will be entertaining residents (complainants), business persons that are working for their business permit to transact in every camp”, said Sir Archie.

Then I was turn over to Sir Marlon, as he continue, he introduced to me the numbers of different forms, “Mao ni ang mga forms sal’, pangutan-a lang kung unsanga form ilang pangayuon then pangita-a lang dire. Make-up form ug work order ang halinun dire sal’, dire nimo isulat ang mga complaints sa residents kung unsa man galing ipatrabaho sa ilang balay papirmahi daun kay Sir Archie. Ang mga tawag sal’ i-take note lang up date ra daun mi kay busy ni dire sal’ gakabyaan gyud ning opisina. Kana sa lang sal’ basin maglibog ka.” After hearing all of that several questions pop-up to my mind, “Why Am I here? Is this a work of a marketing student? Walay something related?” But still I end up no choice I have to go with the flow. Sitting with the large, heavy wooden table in front of me I did my first tasked that day, I tabulated the census of houses and occupancy of Camp Phillips of the three puroks. Onthe first two weeks of my OJT it was indeed a very exciting, fun, challenging and memorable one.I tabulated census, organize the Bantay Bayan Coordinators Report, updated the Map of Camp Phillips, I made the DMPI Housing Facility report, prepared and cut MOR tickets for the Camp Phillips Summer Opening Disco. And as a part of my everyday tasked I entertained residents’ as complainants

(housing problems), employee request I fill-up work orders for them, answering phone calls. And as my co-OJT’s call me”Prinsesa ng Padala” since I act as the messenger of the office as one of my everyday tasked (dropping papers and work orders to the Mail Room).

Last April 22, 2010, OJT’s of SECAM participated in the EARHT DAY CELEBRATION of Manolo Fortich. For the first two (2) hours we sat and listened to the different speakers of the program. And then we proceed to the assigned area to clean.

For the first eleven (11) days of my OJT, I enjoyed everyday of it, I met so many friends both co-OJT’s and employees. It is very over whelming to hear as they call me Ma’am Sally. All of the employees are very accommodating.

And that’s all as of April 15-27, 2010 of my OJT with DMPI. Even though in the department that I belong and my works did not fit to my course, I still expect more things to learn and memories to be cherished.

On-the-job Training Everyday Schedule

6:00a.m – 11:00a.m => Morning

11:00a.m –12:00nn => Lunch Break

12:00n.n –3:00 => Afternoon

After Hearing the buzz out, at exactly 3:00p.m we have one (1) hour team building activity (playing basketball, badmenton or volleyball at least twice a week) done to create a bond among each and every member of the team (both for OJT’s & employees depending on their willingness to join). That is to provide room for enjoyment of the members from everyday work which all of us needs.
